Day Number 5

Well today's post is more than just a photo.  My friend Devina came over today and we watched a movie and munched on snacks while cuddling our adorable puppies. Since my plans changed due to neglect on my part instead of lunch we just had snacks. Right after I put Bell down for her nap I snatched my mom's cookbook and frantically searched for a cookie recipe that I had all the ingredients for. I decided on her oatmeal cookies! They are so YUMMY! But I am not one to simply stick to a recipe. I am too much my mother's daughter for that!

Marye' Audet- White's Classic Oatmeal Cookies - with a spicy twist
(Marye' Audet-White is my mother and I requested permission before posting this recipe to my blog.)
Yields 60 cookies
Ingredients:
¾ cup vegetable shortening

1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup water
3 cups old-fashioned oatmeal, uncooked
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 tsp of Cayenne (red) pepper
1/2 tsp Ginger
1 - 1 1/2 tsp of Ground Cloves
½ teaspoon baking soda
Be careful not to overbake.

 1.         Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease cookie sheets.
 2.         Beat together shortening and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla, and water.
 3.         Combine dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Add any optional ingredients at this time.
 4.         Drop by rounded teaspoons onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake 12–15 minutes.
 5.         Allow to cool 5 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
